About Dr. Erica Sanborn

I am a licensed clinical psychologist (PSY31500) in private practice in West Los Angeles. I graduated from the University of California Santa Barbara with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. I went on to earn a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP) at Alliant International University. Through my doctoral research I specialized in the integration of physical and mental health with respect to self-esteem and body-image. I worked with individuals and couples, providing short-term and open-ended therapy as well as crisis intervention during my training at the Los Angeles LGBT Center and the Engemann Health Center at the University of Southern California. I have provided group therapy to those struggling with anger management and intimate partner violence, as well as survivors of sexual assault and those struggling with anxiety and depression.

I completed my pre-doctoral internship and post-doctoral fellowship as well as a two-year certificate program in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy at the Wright Institute Los Angeles (WILA), where I conducted long-term, insight-oriented therapy. At WILA I assisted in the development of and co-facilitated the Self-Regulation Project, a mentalization-based intensive outpatient program for borderline personality disorder. In addition to my private practice, I have worked in intensive outpatient treatment providing psychodynamic individual and group therapy to young adults and adolescents, and I am currently a member of WILA’s Supervisory Faculty.  At each of these settings I have developed skills to work effectively with diverse populations on a variety of presenting concerns ranging from chronic mental illness and mood disorders to life transitions, self-esteem, and identity development.
